Phoenix FC U23s 3 – 0 Leaventhorpe Rangers FC – Bradford Summer Cup 2021

Fantastic win today by the team. Much improved, a reaction was required after the last game. It was given from the first whistle.

The first goal scored in the the first minute, with Mamzi bulldozing into the penalty box, crossing beautifully with his left foot across the face of the goal with Anas volleying from 2 yards out. The team came firing out the blocks and attacked with purpose and intensity.

Second goal was a scrappy goal with Anas again getting the final touch to make it two nil after a scramble in the box.

Third goal was a beautiful free kick from 25 yards from tawheed after getting taken out running at the Leaventhorpe defence.

The performance was brilliant all over the park, there were a number of changes made and it showed. The defence looked assured in ariel battles as well comfortable playing football. The midfield was aggressive and played on the front foot. In attack we had intensity and pressed in numbers.

Very good team performance from the team fully deserved the 3-0 win.

Goals – Anas x2, Tawheed.

MOM – Ray

Phoenix U21s 5 – 3 Morley Town III

Phoenix U21’s 5-3 Morley Town III

GS: Faisal 2, Mo 2, Mamzi

The U21s had 7 changes made to the lineup and it worked evidently well right from kick off. With the first attack of the game, Mo sent the ball through into the right channel for Faisal to pick up and run onto, finishing with fierce drive.

The new-look Phoenix continued to attack and Faisal got a second goal after 6mins. The game continued with Phoenix dominating possession creating clear chances with only the finishing letting the team down. The new centre-back pairing of Hashim and Ray shone well. They played with maturity and solidity despite their young ages. Hashim towering against any long balls sent against the Phoenix back line with Ray battling like a lion against the big Morley centre-forward.

Morley responded before the half was out with a goal of their own but the half belonged to Phoenix.

Phoenix came out of the blocks roaring and pinned Morley into their half with constant pressure and found a way through when a run down the wing by Mo and precise cut back to the towering Mamzi to slot the ball home to cap off a brilliant team move to make it 3 – 1.

The game opened up with chances at both ends as legs tired and both teams lost a bit of shape and organisation due to changes being made to put on fresh legs. Phoenix scored another goal to make it 4-1 with a brilliant solo goal by Mo.

After a couple of changes Morley attacked with renewed energy and managed to pull a couple of goals back. ‘Big Jimbo’, as he is affectionately known by his team mates, flying around midfield as if he was a reincarnation of Duncan Ferguson. The score poised at 4-3.

Mo once again showed his quality and scored the fifth to secure a well deserved win for the young Phoenix U21s.
